- A safe space to debrief and process difficult and sometimes traumatic experiences;
- Tracks self-care and provides support to retain healthy functioning and positive outlooks, with reduced risk of stress, burnout, absenteeism and attrition of counselling staff;
- Development of skills and professional growth, monitoring the use of evidence-based practice;
- Monitors psychological, and at times physical, safety for staff and therefore also students;
- Encourages agency and autonomy on the part of the individual professional who becomes more aware of their own ethical practice, in compliance with school, department and professional association ethics and conduct codes, and monitoring safe and clear boundaries around what is often a highly emotionally charged area.
